Black Sparrow hawk in Garden this morning!

I was pretty excited to see this juvenile back sparrow hawk hunting doves in the guarden this morning. This is my all-time favourtie raptor! Unfortualtely i was only able to get a photo with my mobile phone, so resolutio is not great ... but hopefully he comes back when i have my camera handy!

Rosy-faced Lovebirds

These birds are native to Namibia, but there are a few colonies in Johannesburg, they are an increasingly commmon visitor to the garden.

African Green Pigeon

Wow, seems I post every four years. Anyway, its super cool to finally have a new bird on the garden brid list! I have been noticing a few African Green Pigeons visiting this year, so took a quick snap. These birds, along with Rameron Pigeons and Grey Hornbills are becomming more and more common in Johannesburg's suburbs. The horbills are quite shy, so have not managed a snap yet.

Black Sparrowhawks of Jo'burg

Wow, around four years since the last post! Anyway, Its the time of year that Johannesburg's Black Sparrowhawks are all on their nests. They are pretty secretive at the best of times, however, I am lucky enough have a couple of nesting sites close by. Nice to see this magnificent raptor doing well in such a big city!

Rat Invasion!

A rat seems to have evicted my collared barbets. Who'd have thought a rat would climb 4 meters up a tree ... where are the owls when you need them!
